[Now that those are out of the way, Luke rests his chin in his hand and stares off to the side, lost in thought. The thing he wanted to talk to Ion about... It's been weighing heavily on his mind ever since he heard it. Luke isn't sure what to think of it, or even how to feel about it. There's a sort of happiness inside him, sure, but... he can't deny the hesitation and confusion he feels. So, after a few minutes, he opens up the journal again to ask the general populace:]

What do you think it means to have a soul?

... That's why I asked. I don't know what it means. I guess... it's what makes you you. It's the reason why we're still ourselves even when we're in a different body... But I'm not sure if that's right or not.

Do you believe that everyone who is born the conventional way has a soul? No matter how they act?

... I used to think so. But... you know, I thought everyone had different souls. That's why everyone acted different.

And what do you think now? That there are some people with the same souls?

W-Well, no... I mean, if I had the same soul as Asch, I'd act just like him, right?

Perhaps. It's difficult to say, if your childhoods were different.

[gets up and refills his mug of cocoa]

I guess they were pretty different... But Cheyenne said my soul looked young, too. Younger than my real age. I don't think Asch's would be like that.
