[It's so bad now that Luke feels like he can barely get out of bed except for necessary needs. It's... honestly kind of strange. Sure, he's scared, and sure, he hates having to lay here and just wait for it to happen, despite writing and drawing to pass the time. But he isn't quite as terrified as he was just a month ago.
It's like he's accepted that this is happening in a quiet, somber sort of way.
There's pain every day, he's tired every day, he's thin and pale and looks as if he's just wasting away, as if he's all that's left after tiny pieces of himself slowly just... faded away. Even his hair seemed not quite as full as it ought to be.
He hated it, yes. But it's happening. And he's close to fading away completely, he knows that. Maybe that's why he's mostly okay with this. It can finally be over.
He'd only flipped through the journal to keep track of everyone. Now, though, he can't help being morbidly curious, in a way. So, making sure that he himself is out of sight, he writes slowly to the masses.]
If someone told you that you didn't have much longer to live, what would you do about it? What would you do with the last days of your life?
[It's a question that could be asked even by a curious healthy person, something to get people to think. He can think of it that way, and get answers that he might just need because of it.]

No, I [there's a pause, before:] wouldn't.
[Because... well. He's not supposed to exist. He wasn't supposed to be born. Why shouldn't he be forgotten? It'd be the way it was supposed to be after that.
But he pushes that thought aside. Those kinds of thoughts haven't plagued him in a while now... And what a time to show up. He's better than this. He's here now, he's a part of people's lives now, and nothing anyone can do can change that.]
But just living isn't all that memorable, right?
[written]
But our lives affect the people we interact with. When we're gone, that changes them.
[written]
... Sorry. That just reminded me of something a friend said to me, that's all. [Tear. She was always wise about those kinds of things... even if Luke didn't listen at first.] I guess you'd never forget something that changed you even a little, huh?
[written]
And I dunno about you, but I wouldn't want to forget.

[And that makes him pause his writing while he laughs on the other end. It's quiet and weak, but it's genuine.]
That sure is one way to describe it!
[written]
Did my choice of language offend you? [not that he cares (unless he's speaking with a woman)]

[written]
Alright, so long as it got the point across.

[Except now his chest hurts from laughing. But you know what? That's okay. He's still smiling, and he does so as he writes.]
Thanks. I haven't really laughed today.
[written]
But if that's the case, you could stand a little more laughter.
[written]
[It's kind of amazing how laughter can make everything go away, even for a short amount of time.]

Who the hell is he talking to? B|
After a moment of incredulous staring, Sanji slaps a private filter over the conversation - which takes a few minutes, but when he's done, Luke can clearly hear the man's demanding voice over the journal]
Oi oi, just who are you? [Someone who knows him well enough to pick up his cussing habits, apparently. And his love of cooking. And frankly, he's already got a hunch.]
[private/voice]
Uh... hey. It's me.
[private/voice]
Rather than bring more attention to the obvious, he spares Luke a calculating glance before he continues on]
Yeah, you're getting better. You're one of my better students now.
[private/voice]
[He sounds hopeful. Learning to cook properly has been something he'd been trying to achieve for a while now, so he tries hard and pays attention well. It's... good to hear that it's all paying off.]
[private/voice]
And I think you're ready to try some of the harder level stuff.
[private/voice]
[There's obviously excitement in his voice, and he very nearly shuffles into view. But no, he holds his legs tighter just to prevent that. No one needs to see him this way.]
So... what kind of stuff's in the harder level?
[private/voice]
Though he can't help the oddly playful note that colors his tone]
Ever tried to make a soufflé before? [Oh Sanji, you bastard]
[private/voice]
[Oh god, that even sounds hard. Soufflé. It's all foreign and everything.]
