[It's rather late at night when the journal clicks on. Luke had waited until he had calmed down from the nightmare he had to make the post, and good thing, too. Otherwise it'd catch the tremor he surely had in his voice.

Instead, he merely sounds subdued, and maybe a little hesitant.]

Does anyone have any good stories to tell?

Or... any advice on how to get back to sleep? [Nothing he usually does is working right now.]

[ Naturally, Xion had fallen asleep with a thumb keeping the journal open. Normally she's pretty careful about that, but tonight she'd just passed out....

Maybe it was a good thing. Because his voice makes her stir, though it takes her a while to fully wake up. For once, she wasn't already awake... ]

Luke?

[ She sounds groggy. It takes her a second to realize he's not actually there, and instead talking over the journal. She opens it up and curls up next to it, her eyes closed. All the little camera catches is darkness. ]

You okay?

[Emil never means to fall asleep with his journal open, but as he's a bit of a restless sleeper, sometimes it just sort of ends up happening if he rolls over after dozing off while flipping through it. Of course, this also means that he wakes up whenever someone decides to speak over the journals, but that's a minor detail.

And since that's a familiar voice and a familiar question, he can't help but answer it.]

You can't sleep either?

[If Luke happens to look over at his door, he might notice a little sliver of light shining from beneath it; there's obviously a light on in the apartment.

Venturing out would earn him the following visual: Asch sitting on one seat of the couch, nose deep in one of those Dawn Age books he's always poking at, though for once he's reading a smaller, tattered-looking paperback rather than the big, complicated textbooks. A clumsy but colourful drawing of two blond boys decorate the cover, each holding a sword.

On one of Asch's feet, a little furry kitten butt is visible; someone couldn't even make it onto the couch before dozing off.]

Having trouble sleeping?

[And then immediately-]

Ah, my bad! You just said that, so it shouldn't be really a question.

[Xion...

Nngh. She sounds groggy. Did he wake her up?]

Sorry for waking you. [Now, does he ask for her help, or try to say that he's fine? Considering how it's still dark over there...]

Yeah, I'm okay. Just having a little trouble sleeping, that's all.

You too? [He sighs and runs a hand through his hair. Damn, he feels bad asking this kind of thing late at night... He probably woke the whole village or something.]

I tried a lot of stuff already... I still can't sleep.

[Luke does indeed notice the light after a little while. Curious, he goes to open the door - only to squint and hold his hand out to shield the light from his eyes. He has messy hair, too, a testament to the fact that he was sleeping.

Once his eyes get used to the brighter light (he had a lamp on, but it was rather soft compared to this), he steps up behind the couch and leans over it on the opposite side of where Asch is sitting.]

Hey... What're you reading? ["Again?" goes unsaid. Asch has been reading a lot lately...]

Huh? Oh, uh, don't worry about that, Paprika! You're right, though.

[His voice, at least, sounds a little lighter than how he started out. It always makes him happy to hear from her.]

Something on your mind then? Or maybe your body clock is just messed up. People can't sleep for a number of reasons really.

[Asch barely glances over when Luke approaches, though his gaze flits to Luke's briefly at the question.]

It's a series of short stories from the Dawn Age. I found it in Daath as a kid.

[Though from the cover and the slight blush that crosses Asch's cheeks, it's probably not a stretch to assume that "short stories" actually means "kid's stories and fairy tales".]

I guess you could say that...

[It's hard to admit that he had a nightmare to people, even someone like Paprika. Still, he squirms slightly. It's hard to try to hide things from her anyway.]

[... Well, that makes him raise his head in interest. Short stories? Luke can see the cover from here, and... well, he still doesn't really put it together. Probably best for Asch that Luke doesn't really pick up on these things, nor is he capable of reading the cover.

So instead of teasing, he moves around to sit on the cushion beside him and pulls one leg up, letting his arm rest across the knee.]

Think you could read one or two out loud? [The request is quiet; he's not sure if Asch heard him while he had the nightmare, but he's sure he let out a short cry or two.]

Hm...do you want me to tell you a story? Maybe it can help ease your mind?

Yeah, if you have any. [There's a shifting sound as he settles a little. Maybe he can finally get some sleep.]

[When Roxas' voice cuts through the journal transmission, he sounds as though he's already awake and also having troubles falling asleep. He sympathizes, Luke. He sympathizes.]I read. Or I patrol around outside, but I don't think that's a good idea for you. The former though, that might work.

But hey, if you find anybody with good stories, send them my way.

Alright let me see...oh okay, I got. [She then moves to the side and picks up and fairly thick hard covered book and searches around, until she's satisfied.] Ready?

[Noel should have been in bed earlier because of that dream journal she was supposed to be recording for Paprika, but there's been a number of things in mind that have been keeping her awake.

...somehow, she's not too surprised to see Luke up at this hour for some reason.]

You're having trouble sleeping?

Ready. [He's on his stomach with his arms around the pillow. HIS BODY IS READY.]

Okay!

[Gonna clear her throat and--]

What is consciousness, anyway? As William James said about consciousness, "Its meaning we know so long as no one asks us to define it." We might define consciousness as the subjective experience of perceiving oneself and one's surroundings. This definition is only marginally useful, however, as it relies on the undefined phrase "subjective experience."

Reading's boring... I guess that's the point of it though, huh.

[Luke often wanders around outside when he can't sleep... He's about to do that, actually. But jeez, it's hot out there...]

[Luke is often awake at stupid o'clock in the morning due to being an insomniac, but he's trying to work on that. It isn't working out too well, obviously.

Noel's voice makes him glance at the journal - She might see a bit of red hair, as he has a lamp with a soft light on.]

Yeah... It's not a big deal, I just can't get back to sleep.

[... Yup, Luke stopped paying attention pretty quickly into that. He looks away from the journal and stares ahead instead, letting her voice make his mind drift a little. Sad to say, it bores him so much that he's actually starting to drift.

It's way too short, though, and when she stops speaking, Luke slowly snaps out of it and looks at the journal again. There's a slight, sleepy sounding chuckle to his voice when he speaks.]

What kind of story was that? I don't think I understood any of it.

[Pommy's already spent a lot of time wandering around Luceti during the nights, so this time he's staying inside for a change of pace, trying to get used to the journal system. It's a little lonely, so he's glad when he hears Luke's voice, even if Luke sounds a little sad.]

Myu, Pommy can't think of any stories right now, but Pommy heard that if you drink warm milk, it might make you sleepy.

[Hello, Luke's hair.]

Hmm... whenever I had trouble getting to sleep, a glass of milk usually helped a little. It's a worth a shot if you haven't tried it yet. [...or if you have milk in your house.]

[The new voice makes him lift his head a little... but he makes a face at the suggestion, cringing and just shy of sticking out his tongue.]

Warm milk? Uugh... Milk's gross enough as it is!
